The Weight of Being “The Strong Friend”

“Even pillars need foundations.”

Strong friends hold space for others, often without receiving the same support. They become the ones people vent to, lean on, and depend on—yet rarely ask how they’re doing. This imbalance can feel isolating, exhausting, and invisible. The strength becomes armor that hides unmet needs.

Many strong friends learned early that being useful keeps relationships secure. Asking for help may feel vulnerable or unfamiliar. But the strong friend deserves support too. You are allowed to rest, cry, and be held—not just hold others.

Therapy becomes a place where strength doesn’t have to be performed. A space where the one who normally listens can be listened to. Where the one who normally supports can feel supported. Where strength is redefined as honesty—not endurance.

Your capacity is a gift, but you deserve care as well.

AAC offers therapy for caregivers, helpers & strong friends who are tired of carrying alone.
