Trauma and PTSD
Trauma can affect individuals emotionally, physically, and psychologically long after a distressing experience has ended. Trauma may result from childhood experiences, abuse, neglect, domestic violence, accidents, medical events, loss, community violence, first responder experiences, or other overwhelming events. Some individuals experience symptoms associated with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), including intrusive memories, nightmares, hypervigilance, emotional numbness, anxiety, panic, irritability, avoidance, or feeling constantly unsafe or “on guard.” Trauma can also impact relationships, self-esteem, emotional regulation, and the ability to feel connected or secure.
At Assessing Alternatives Counseling, we provide trauma-informed therapy that prioritizes emotional safety, trust, and individualized care. Our therapists utilize evidence-based approaches such as EMDR, CBT, mindfulness-based interventions, and somatic and attachment-focused strategies to help clients process traumatic experiences and reduce the impact trauma has on daily life. Healing from trauma is not about “forgetting” what happened—it is about helping individuals regain a sense of safety, empowerment, connection, and control over their lives moving forward.
