Group Therapy in Arvada, CO
Group therapy at Assessing Alternatives Counseling provides a structured and supportive environment where individuals can learn, grow, and build meaningful skills alongside others. Unlike individual therapy, group work allows participants to benefit not only from professional guidance but also from shared experience, perspective, and connection.
Group therapy can be especially helpful for individuals navigating emotional intensity, relationship challenges, life transitions, anxiety, or stress. Within a facilitated group setting, members are encouraged to engage respectfully, practice new skills, and reflect on patterns in a safe and confidential space.
Each group begins with a clear structure and purpose. Some groups focus on skill development, while others may emphasize discussion and shared processing. Participants can expect professional facilitation, thoughtful pacing, and an environment designed to promote psychological safety and growth.
At Assessing Alternatives Counseling, our groups are facilitated by trained clinicians or supervised graduate-level interns, depending on the program. All groups are thoughtfully designed to ensure that participants receive evidence-based support within a collaborative framework.

Current Groups: DBT Skills Training

We are currently offering three pro bono (no cost) Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills groups. These structured skills groups focus on teaching practical tools in four core areas:
-
Mindfulness
-
Distress Tolerance
-
Emotion Regulation
-
Interpersonal Effectiveness
Our current DBT groups include:
-
Teen DBT Skills Group
-
Young Adult DBT Skills Group (20s)
-
Adult DBT Skills Group (30s)
These groups are skills-based rather than process-oriented, meaning participants will actively learn and practice coping strategies they can apply in everyday life. While individual sharing is welcomed, the primary focus is on building tangible tools for managing emotions, navigating relationships, and increasing resilience.
All DBT groups are offered at no cost to participants and are facilitated by supervised interns as part of our commitment to increasing access to care in the Arvada community.
