How Neurodivergent Kids Express Love Differently

Love doesn’t always look like eye contact, hugs, or conversation. Some kids show love through parallel play, shared interests, information-sharing, or simply being near someone. When adults expand their understanding of connection, children feel less pressured and more understood.
Instead of expecting a certain expression, ask: “How do you like to show love?” This empowers autonomy and reduces shame around differences. Receiving love in a child’s language is one of the most powerful forms of attunement.
Love is a spectrum too—broad, creative, and deeply human.
