Twice-Exceptional Kids: Strengths & Struggles Together

Twice-exceptional (2e) kids can feel misunderstood—gifted in some areas while needing support in others. Their strengths may mask their struggles, leading adults to expect more than is developmentally appropriate. This mismatch creates stress and frustration.
Validation sounds like: “You’re capable and still deserving of support.” Kids shouldn’t have to earn accommodations through suffering. Their brilliance and their challenges are intertwined—not contradictory.
Help them build skills where needed without diminishing their passions. Celebrate creativity, intensity, and curiosity while also scaffolding executive functioning, emotional regulation, and pacing.
2e kids thrive when adults see the whole child—not just the exceptional parts.
